Emily had horrible food issues, not with humans, but with other dogs. She could not live in a home with other alpha dogs, and treats or dishes left out could be a death sentence. In every other way, Emily was perfect. She loved my daughter, slept on her bed. She traveled every where with me. In the end the decision to put her to sleep left me empty and cold. It tore at my marriage. In the end there were no other options, so I did what I had to do, and that was not an easy call, or lesson. Today with the facility that we have now, Emily would have been spared, Emily could have been re-home. I have never forgotten Emily and I still very much believe in her breed. She is the why in what I do. And when a beautiful female Pit Bull comes to me in need, I am taken back to Emily Anne, and what could have been.
China Blue, like Emily, needs to be the only dog. However, with Pit Bulls, we accept their limitations and understand them. China is alive today because of the Emily Anne's that have come before her.
Back to facts and figures; I work daily with no less than 25 Pit Bulls at any given time. I would say the odds of me being bit or hurt would be very high IF you believed everything that you read or hear about them from our beloved news people. From my own experience I can say without a doubt that these poor kids get a very bad deal. They are mistreated at every turn. They are tortured, burned, fought, starved, and yet they still love us. Those that will not fight are discarded, maimed, and killed. Those that will fight will one day die in a pit. What happens to the people that do these things to our Pit Bulls? For the most part ... nothing. One animal control officer told me that to prove Pit Bull fighting is very hard, after all, the witnesses can not speak. I own a Pit Bull, have for the past seven years. She is one of the sweetest, smartest dogs that I ever owned. She will never make a news story, she will never be on the front page, a dog sleeping on a couch is not newsworthy. This is so for every other Pit Bull out there living in a family home doing nothing wrong, they won't be on the news for that does not sell the papers, only the bad Pit Bulls end up on the news, because after all that is what sells newspapers.

I wanted to find some facts and figures to back up my claims that Pit Bulls are wonderful animals. That in the right home, they can be one of the most amazing dogs you will ever own. But, it dawned on me. I have been in rescue since 2000. I know all the facts and figures one could know, by just rescuing them every day.
One of my very first foster dogs came from an animal control facility. She was an awesome, big headed girl named Emily Anne.
